Sub-Tech Systems International
HYPERBARIC SERVICES
On behalf of THRIFT, Sub-Tech Systems manage an on site, custom-built treatment facility.
It contains a 60 inch diameter single-lock recompression chamber with a large door entry to facilitate wheelchair access.
It can seat four people and has 6 portholes. During treatment, sometimes called a "dive", there is no water involved in the process. The oxygen mask is worn over the nose and mouth to breathe pure oxygen. The chamber is brought to depth by the operator who will communicate to you via an intercom. There is also a video camera as well to monitor inside the chamber.
As the session starts the pressure will slowly increase, similar to that of an airplane and patients will feel a slight pressure in their ears & swallowing is the easy solution to easing the pressure. Once the chamber has reached depth (it doesn't actually go anywhere it's just that the atmosphere in the chamber has changed to that of one found in the sea), patients will stay at that atmosphere, breathing pure oxygen for one hour. (Please note that breathing oxygen feels no different than breathing normal air). After this hour is up, the operator will slowly bring the chamber atmosphere up to normal atmospheric pressure, the air lock will open and the session is completed.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment (HBO) Sessions Schedule.
HBO Sessions are offered four times a day to a variety of depths. Please call the Sub-Tech office on Barrow (01229) 820400 for an appointment.
Please be sure to arrive for "dives" 10-15 minutes before the session begins and if it is necessary to cancel, please do so the day before.
